TheraFit integrates seven interdependent domains of wellness through an Afrocentric, trauma-informed lens. Our approach is especially attuned to the experiences of African and minority group veterans, whose intersectional identities often result in gaps in care and systemic disparities. These domains ensure comprehensive, culturally responsive services that restore dignity, promote healing, and drive equity.

Strengthening holistic healing across seven interconnected areas.
1. Nutritional Fitness
Healing through nourishment, gut-brain health, and food literacy with a focus on culturally relevant nutritional practices. We honor natural foodways while addressing diet-related disparities disproportionately impacting minority veterans, including hypertension, diabetes, and food insecurity.
2. Emotional/Cognitive Fitness
Building emotional regulation, insight, and resilience through therapeutic modalities that center culturally grounded approaches. Our work acknowledges intergenerational trauma, racialized stress, and the need for safe, affirming spaces for veterans, athletes, laypersons, etc. to process high stress military and civilian life. The interplay between emotional health and cognitive health are centered in relation to healing and performance enhancements and cognitive flexibility and resilience.
3. Physical Fitness
Supporting movement, somatic awareness, and body-based healing practices including boxing therapy, yoga, and dance rooted in the African diaspora. Our programs provide trauma-informed physical healing spaces accessible to veterans impacted by injury, PTSD, chronic stress, performance anxiety, and various other challenges.
4. Spiritual Fitness
Fostering connection to meaning, purpose, and practices that support inner alignment across diverse faith, cultural, and reflective traditions. For participants of African descent and other minoritized groups, spiritual wellness is often a cornerstone of resilience, rooted in both traditional and nontraditional paths.
5. Industrial/Organizational Fitness
Building sustainable, emotionally intelligent systems using Industrial-Organizational Psychology through a culturally sensitive lens. We prepare participants for leadership roles, workplace reintegration, and equity-driven productivity while addressing bias, burnout, and systemic barriers in employment and institutions.
6. Cultural Fitness
Honoring cultural humility, responsivity, and the sacredness of cultural space and place. We strengthen and uplift knowledge systems veterans already hold, including Indigenous, Afrocentric, and diasporic traditions, ensuring identity-affirming engagement that counters erasure and fosters belonging.
7. Educational/Leadership Fitness
Creating inclusive, research-informed, and contextually grounded learning environments. We provide participants with accessible, liberatory education opportunities, mentoring, and peer-led learning models that acknowledge lived experience as expertise and elevate collective growth.
