What's in a Name?
TheraFit stands for Therapeutic Fitness
TheraFit stands for Therapeutic Fitness—a multidimensional model of healing and development that recognizes the importance of wellness at personal, relational, institutional, and systemic levels.
The name draws deep inspiration from the founding extensive work with military populations, where the concept of “fitness” carries layered meanings: physical readiness, mental resilience, access to deserved services and benefits, and comprehensive wellness. These insights inform a broader application of the TheraFit model to both clinical and community-based populations.
At its core, TheraFit emphasizes strengthening seven interconnected domains of fitness to promote holistic healing.
SAFE Wellness Framework
Integrated healing through two foundational frameworks.
Somatic, Fitness-Based, Emotional Healing
The first dimension of SAFE Wellness promotes individual transformation using movement, emotional processing, and body-centered healing approaches. This framework integrates somatic awareness with fitness-based practices and emotional regulation for comprehensive personal wellness.
Socialization Activation of Feedback Exchange
The second dimension is an interpersonal growth model based on preliminary research. This framework promotes relational transformation through guided social learning and cultural reconnection, activating meaningful feedback exchange within communities and relationships.
Together, these frameworks promote individual and relational transformation using movement, emotional processing, guided social learning, and cultural reconnection.
